Wales Lockdown End Day – 9 November 2020 – Reflection

Today is a big day of reflection.

Wales’ 17 day firebreak has officially come to an end now. It coincides with the very day that 31 years ago saw the fall of the Berlin Wall. Up until recently, I believed that this would be the most influential event in my life. Obviously, Coronavirus has somewhat shifted this paradigm. Back then, at just 18, I felt uncertain, anxious and very apprehensive about what this new world might have on offer for me, besides bananas and Levis’ jeans.

The fact of the matter is, if that Wall had never come down, I could be a CID officer in the East German police investigating murders that never even existed in the official statistics. As I sit and reflect on this today, I am grateful for the unpredictable turn historic events took, despite all the pain, the unemployment and the social upheaval in my home country at the time. Ultimately, it provided me with an opportunity to come to this country, study to become an osteopath who is now in a position to help and guide my patients through this unsettling time. My past may be different to yours but it has shaped my osteopathic approach and my overall outlook on life.

30 years from now we will look back at Covid-19 and reflect on how this historic event ultimately made us stronger despite all the pain and upheaval at the time.

Since 30 years from now is a long way off, for the time being, stay safe and appreciate the people around you!
